Short answer first.
Do I Need to Download Anything?
No, not if you don't want to. On a computer, Grok works right in your web browser at grok.com.[4][5] On a phone or tablet, you can get the free Grok app from your app store, or just open grok.com in your browser.[1][2][3] You don't need to download a "new version" of anything to get started. If you already have the app, your app store keeps it up to date.

Four Ways to Use Grok

Pick whichever one feels easiest. They're all the same Grok.

  1. In a web browser, with no download. Open the browser you already use to visit websites, type grok.com in the address bar, and press Enter.[4][5] The official help page recommends grok.com in Chrome or a similar browser.[6]
  2. On an iPhone or iPad. Get the free Grok AI app on the App Store. The official listing names the developer as X Corp. and needs iOS or iPadOS 17 or newer.[1]
  3. On an Android phone or tablet. Get the Grok AI app on Google Play. The official listing shows SpaceX Super Intelligence under the app name, and its developer details list SpaceXAI LLC.[2]
  4. Inside X. If you already use X (formerly Twitter), Grok is also available there.[4] Grok on X follows X's own rules and help center.[4]

Typed grok.com/download? When we checked on October 23, 2026, that address simply opened the normal grok.com page.[8] There's no file to download there, and you don't need one. You can start typing your question right on that page.

Do I Need an Account?

Not always to try it, but it helps. The official pages describe using Grok without logging in, and they say your chats aren't kept for you after you leave if you don't sign in.[4]

  • Signing in saves your chats and keeps your conversations, settings and plan in sync across the web and the apps.[5]
  • You can sign in with email or an X account.[3] The help page also mentions Apple and Google sign-ins.[6] Use the same way on every device, or your chats may seem to be missing.[6]
  • Age: you must be at least 13. Teens 13 to 17 need a parent's or guardian's permission.[4]

Is Grok Free or Paid?

Both. You can start for free, and paying is optional.[3][5] The app is free to download.[1] Here's what the official pricing page listed on October 23, 2026:[7]

Monthly list prices from the official pricing page, checked October 23, 2026. Taxes and fees are extra, and the page says prices are subject to change.
PlanPriceUsage, as the page describes it
Free$0Limited
Plus$8 a monthA shared usage pool
Premium$30 a month4 times Plus
Super$100 a month15 times Plus
Ultra$200 a month50 times Plus
How much use do you actually get? No actual usage amount is published for any plan. The "4 times," "15 times" and "50 times" figures only compare each plan to Plus, and the size of the Plus allowance itself isn't published.[7]

You may also see older plan names, like SuperGrok, on some official pages and in the App Store.[1][6] For a fuller, plain-English look at each plan, see Grok Free vs. Paid: What Each Plan Includes →

Our honest suggestion for beginners: start with the free plan for a week or two. You can always decide about paying later.

Stay Safe: Watch Out for Fake Downloads
Searching "Grok download" can turn up look-alike sites and apps. Keep it simple:
  • Only download from the official app store (Apple App Store or Google Play), or skip the download and use grok.com.
  • Don't download Grok from any other website. On a computer, there's nothing to download in the first place.[4][5]
  • Check the name on the listing. On the App Store it's X Corp.[1] On Google Play, it's SpaceX Super Intelligence (SpaceXAI LLC).[2]
  • Never pay a third party for Grok. The official pricing page says subscriptions are only sold directly, and it doesn't authorize resellers.[7]
  • Spelled it "Groc" or "Grock"? The correct spelling is Grok. Double-check it before you tap a result.

Grok or Grok Bot?

They're two different things. Grok is the AI assistant you ask questions. Grok Bot is a separate product that works on whole jobs for you on its own cloud computer, and it isn't the same as Grok on grok.com or in the Grok apps.[6] On the official pricing page, Grok Bot first appears in the Premium plan.[7] No actual usage amount is published for any plan.
